Getting organized

Tip #4

Shoes!  It has come to our attention that just about everyone has too many shoes.  Shoes for every occassion, shoes that they love and constantly wear, shoes that are so very uncomfortable that they never wear ( but refuse to throw away), shoes for special occassions and shoes for …… no reason, just liked the way they looked.

Then you have shoes that are too small or too big but were on sale and shoes that used to be in style but are no longer.

Go through your shoes, pair by pair, throw away the ones that you haven’t worn in a year.  You will be amazed at how much room you now have for new shoes :) .  When storing shoes you can either keep them in the box and label them on the outside with a clear picture of the shoe or clearly labelled description so that you don’t have to open every box.  If you are having your closet installed by a professional splurge and get the sliding shoe shelves installed.

Shelving with a purpose

 Tip #3

Shelves actually have a purpose and the purpose is ….. helping you to get organized.  Start with taking everything off the shelves.  Make piles!  Everything that you actually use goes in one pile and everything that you haven’t used for a year goes in another pile.

The “haven’t used it in a year”pile goes…..into the garbage….goodwill….recycling, anywhere but not back in the closet on the shelves.

Installed shelves tend to hold more weight than the pre-assembled stackable shelves.  Take inventory, check your budget, count how many shelves you need and get organized!

Keeping with our “get organized for spring” theme here is tip #2

If you store your shoes at the bottom of the closet consider getting a slide out shelf installed.  This will give you the option of neatly aligning your shoes on the shelf and then pushing them back in their space.  No more crouching down to see what is under the hanging clothing, just slide the shelf out and “voila!”  all your shoes are in sight!  Simple and efficient…the sliding shelf!

Spring, new beginnings

Spring is the season of getting organized.  This week Executive Closets will share with you tips for getting organized.  Closets seem to be a place of clutter.  What you can’t see can’t hurt you?  Think again.  There is nothing worse than a cluttered closet.  An organized closet can make a small space larger than you ever imagined.

Tip #1

With the price of quality clothing today you want to prolong them for as long as you can.  Don’t hang them on wire or flimsy plastic hangers.  Invest in wooden or padded hangers which will maintain the shape of your garment.   If you have alot of tops, shirts or skirts have double hanging in your closet as opposed to just long hanging.  This will double your hanging space and keep everything nice and neat.

A beautiful buffet

I had an appointment in a mid size home of about 2000 sq ft. The living room and dining room is one long area.  The owners had made the living room more like a family room, tv, sofas, coffee table etc.

The dining room has an antique oak table with 6 chairs and not much else.  There is one long wall where they wanted to put a buffet, wall to wall.  Because this is a relatively small room the owners felt that a buffet, wall to wall and approximately 16″ deep would make great use of a small and otherwise under used space.  They also wanted glass doors above to showcase some of their antique silver pieces.

It turned out not only beautiful but extremely useful.  Tons of space in the lower unit which has shelves and drawers.

Refacing a Kitchen

March 21, 2008 by petiteposh

This kitchen was approximately 23 years old.  We were called in to evaluate it and see if there was a possibility of refacing it rather than going to the enormous expense of gutting and putting in a whole new kitchen.

We checked the boxes ( the shelving) and the divisions and saw they were of good wood and foundation, no reason not to reface this kitchen.  It came out GORGEOUS!!!  The owners were more than pleased.
